Halloween Driving Weekend - October 29, 30 & 31
Well, it was fun, I think all are in agreement on that. A bit colder, we mostly worked in the indoor arena, but did have a really nice field trip to Greenall Carriage House where John showed us his carriages and told stories about some and the history behind each. The pace was a bit more relaxed, with a little more time to chat and watch the lessons. The rental cottage was really cozy and the potluck suppers there were out of this world! Fun, fun, fun! The weather was gorgeous, the people equally so, and the food was once again fabulous! A little bit cooler than our summer clinic, for which I think the horses were grateful. Kathleen and Rick Fallon at Running Brook Farm provided refreshments, answered driving equipment questions, and let us wander around and check out all the really cool vehicles they have on hand - new, old, and ancient - Friday evening. The lessons were fun and inspiring, we did some road driving, and the mini ADT was an amusing introduction to the sport of competitive driving.Summer Driving Weekend - July 16-18 - Report
Well, what a nice bunch of folks gathered for this summer clinic! We had 3 very full days of lessons, with some road ride-and-drives for a change of pace, and The Most Fabulous meals. You might think that such a large gathering of humans and horses would be chaotic, but everything went smooth as silk, thanks in great part to the attendees, who were wonderful about helping each other out, cheering each other on, and even cleanup and chores! (Lori and Linda say "Thank you all very much for your help with the chores!")
The lessons were inspiring, the horses absolutely lovely and the weather was at least 20 degrees cooler than in town, with a nice breeze.
(Whew! Reason enough to spend the day at Land's End Farm!) Horse stories were swapped, bits and harnesses adjusted and compared, and s'mores created and consumed. (Those giant marshmallows were so yummy...)
Sue was a bit worn out by the end of the weekend, as might be expected, but recovered quickly enough to win her division at Waldingfield this past weekend with Noble. Woo hoo!! Spring Tune-up Clinic Weekend
The weather was brisk, but spirits were high. A great group of drivers/riders got together to spend a long weekend that was all about horses... Good food, great conversations, lots of horses - doesn't get any better than that!
Participants had lessons with Sue in the indoor arena, then watched as others took their turns. From beginner level to pretty darned good, there was a nice range of skills represented. And it's amazing how much one can learn from watching others work! We had a nice round-table discussion after lunch to recap what each participant had worked on. And then we did some driving out on the dirt roads, so beautiful with the leaves just starting to unfold, no traffic to speak of, and cool enough to keep those furry ponies from getting too sweaty.
